Welcome to virginiaconsumer.com and virginiaconsumer.org. The virginiaconsumer.com and virginiaconsumer.org websites (the “Site”) are social advocacy and media platforms operated by The Free Soil Project (doing business as “Virginia Consumer”). Use of the Site is offered to you conditioned on your acceptance without modification of the terms, conditions, and notices contained herein (the “Terms”). Your use of the Site constitutes your agreement to all such Terms.
Nature of Service: Social Advocacy & Media The Site serves as a social advocacy and information platform. We produce, aggregate, and distribute original and third-party media content—including news, video, and commentary—to champion consumer protections, regulatory reform, and community-led social change in Virginia.
As an advocacy-focused site, we offer commentary and blog-style posting to mobilize community support. Please note:

Privacy & Data Protection
In compliance with the Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act (VCDPA), we respect your rights to access, correct, delete, and obtain a copy of your personal data. As an advocacy platform, we may collect data to facilitate grassroots organizing; however, you maintain the right to opt-out of the processing of personal data for targeted advertising or the sale of personal data at any time.
Electronic Communications
Visiting the Site or sending emails to The Free Soil Project constitutes electronic communications. You consent to receive electronic communications, including newsletters and advocacy updates, and agree that all electronic notices satisfy legal requirements for written communication.
Your Account
If you create an account to participate in our advocacy community, you are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials. The Free Soil Project reserves the right to refuse service or terminate accounts that violate our community standards or advocacy mission.
Children Under Thirteen
The Free Soil Project does not knowingly collect personal information from persons under thirteen. If you are under 18, you may use the Site only with the involvement of a parent or guardian.

No Unlawful or Prohibited Use/Intellectual Property
You are granted a non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the Site. All original content—including text, graphics, advocacy logos, and media—is the property of The Free Soil Project or its content providers and is protected by copyright laws.
Advocacy Exception: You are encouraged to share our advocacy content via social media for non-commercial, awareness-building purposes, provided you maintain original attributions and do not alter the core message.
You may not use the Site for any purpose that is unlawful or interferes with the advocacy efforts of other users.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless The Free Soil Project, its officers, and its agents for any losses or expenses arising out of your use of the Site, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any applicable laws.
Arbitration & Class Action Waiver
Any dispute arising from these Terms will be resolved through final and binding arbitration via the Federal Arbitration Act. Both parties agree that claims must be brought in an individual capacity and not as part of a class or representative action.
Termination/Access Restriction
The Free Soil Project reserves the right to terminate access to the Site at any time for any reason. This agreement is governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
